Characteristics of leather products - oiled leather
- oiled lether - Introduction
Introduction
Oiled leather is leather soaked in oil after tanning process (tanning process in which the leather is soaked in tannin containing vegetable tannin), which improves heat resistance, rust resistance, and maintains the texture and softness of the leather.
This gives the leather a moist and beautiful luster on the surface.
On the other hand, Nu-me leather is only tanned and not coated with oil, so its surface has a matte texture. Therefore, oiled leather ages more deeply than uncoated leather.
Aging of oil leather
As leather is used, the dye fades due to hand rubbing and friction.
The tannin inside the hide oxidizes when exposed to sunlight, causing the leather to age.
Oil leather, which contains oil, tends to age more deeply.
As the penetrating oil gradually dissolves, the hide gradually becomes softer and more comfortable to the touch.
Our leather products are made of natural leather.
Just as each person's skin is different, each piece of leather processed from animal skins has a different expression.
Please enjoy the following expressions of leather as the uniqueness of each product.
Blood Strips
Bloodstripe" is a condition in which the blood vessels of the cow appear on the surface as they are.
The uneven appearance of the blood streaks is an expression unique to natural leather, and we hope you enjoy the natural texture of the leather.

Tiger (a type of wrinkle)
Tigers" are wrinkles on the surface of leather.
They can only be found in natural leather, and are very popular in Europe and the United States as a unique characteristic of leather.
Tigers" are not necessarily damaged, but rather are often found on the shoulders and necks of cows, and are said to be tougher than other types of leather.

Living wrinkles
Tigers also have wrinkles when they are alive, but while tigers have wrinkles on their necks and shoulders, tanners call the wrinkles around their bellies "iki wrinkles".They are not so noticeable in the raw hides, but they are noticeable when the hides are tanned using tannin.
The "wrinkles" that appear on the surface of the leather are a major element (personality) that enhances the appeal of the leather.
Grain marks
Grains appear due to differences in the density of the cow's pores. They vary in size and create a unique look.
Moles
Just like humans, cows have moles. Of course, there are a thousand different kinds.
The small black dots are one of the hallmarks of natural leather.
nick in a blade
Scratches are a common occurrence in natural leather.
Scratches from cattle fights, insect bites, and injuries appear as scars.
Pasture-raised animals, even when processed from raw hides into leather, will show "rose scratches" as shown in the following image.
Please enjoy these as part of the character of natural leather.

Color Unevenness
When leather is dyed, the density and thickness of the fibers differ depending on the area,
uneven dyeing may occur.
Leather quality varies depending on the age of the animal, its sex, living environment, and other conditions.
Therefore, no two pieces of leather will be dyed in the same way, even with the same dyeing process.
This is also a unique characteristic of the leather.
