YUKI glass
In the 1910s and 20s, "opalescent milky glass" (nyuhaku glass) captivated Japan with its pale, ephemeral hues. These delicate colors were created using the "Aburidashi" technique, a method widely used at the time. As eras changed, the technique began to fade and was nearly lost to history—until Hirota Glass successfully revived it in the 1980s.
The patterns are not painted on; they are realized exclusively through this unique Japanese technique. Using raw materials that include natural bone ash, the milky-white hue is created by subjecting the glass to rapid temperature changes during the molding process. These patterns emerge only through masterful temperature control while the glass is being shaped. The exquisitely pale, translucent colors and motifs are the result of skilled craftsmanship combined with precision-engineered molds.
Every time you hold the glass, you savor the depth of history, discover the allure of modern design, and feel the flow of time within your hands. This delicate technique, preserved across decades, has been infused with a contemporary sensibility to create a timeless beauty within YUKI glass.
Perfect for tea and coffee, as well as beer, whiskey, or wine. As you pour, your drink brings the timeless, atmospheric patterns to life, making them softly emerge. With a size ideally suited for daily use, YUKI glass also makes a thoughtful gift—the perfect choice for a pair set for a special occasion or a meaningful token for someone dear.
